Students take a common foundation programme in the 1st year which explores the basis of nursing knowledge and its relationship to fundamental disciplines such as physiology and social sciences; the course concentrates on the student’s academic, personal and professional development and begins with an introduction to nursing skills and progressively introduces theoretical material in relation to nursing, research appreciation as applied to nursing practice, physiology and the psychological, social and policy context of care; students take modules to prepare them for the specific branch of nursing in which they wish to qualify; specialised study (2 years): Students study within their chosen branch programmes; programme includes approximately 50 per cent of students time being spent on placements in a wide variety of NHS hospital and community trusts.
