This degree provides the opportunity to combine the in-depth study of literature and creative writing with other modules offered by the School, in subjects such as history and sociology; students are exposed to a wide range of literature, encouraged to examine it within its social and historical context and to respond through their own writing; the structure of the degree means that as well as encountering literature in a variety of forms students are also able to focus on producing extended pieces of their own work.
