Students have the opportunity to study alongside students from other professional backgrounds, experts by experience, qualified social workers and those with significant or current experience of social care services for adults or children and young people through voluntary or paid work, or life experience; the award enables students to reflect critically upon their own practice or experience in relation to published generic and specialist standards; current legislation surrounding equality is examined, together with the contested nature of the concept of social justice in relation to social work; students specialising in children, young people, their families and carers examine a range of questions relating to the safeguarding of children and young people within contemporary social work practice, together with the complex social, psychological and emotional needs of looked-after children.
