The 10-month degree program has been designed to be completed mid-July through mid-May. Students are required to take ten 3-credit courses for a total of 30 credit hours. Courses are offered in a 2-4-4 format, with two courses in the summer semester, four courses in the fall semester, and four courses in the spring semester. No thesis is required. See below for detailed information about course offerings. The 18-month and 24-month degree programs also begin in mid-July but are completed later. For the July 2016 entering cohort, these programs would end in December 2017 and May 2018, respectively. The degree requirements, including completion of the core courses and 30 graded credit hours, will be the same for all degree tracks. A thesis option is not required (or offered) in any of the degree tracks. A longer degree option can be a good fit for many students, including those looking to: complete the degree at a slower pace; work part-time or pursue an internship while completing the degree, build a stronger profile for PhD applications or private-sector jobs, and/or take additional Economics courses.

Location

With sunshine more than 300 days per year, Austin offers College Living Experience (CLE) students access to the Texas Hill Country, a destination for people who love fishing, water sports, bike trails, ball fields and picnic areas.

Downtown Austin, known as the Live Music Capital of the World, is host to a variety of music events throughout the year. Favorites include the South by Southwest entertainment conferences and the Austin City Limits Music Festival. The Texas capital is renowned for its cultural and civic attractions including the Long Center for the Performing Arts, the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum, and the Bob Bullock Texas History Museum. Austin features a multitude of deluxe shopping areas, including the Sixth Street entertainment district and the Guadalupe Street shopping district.

The Domain, a new upscale outdoor mall boasting a variety of shops and restaurants, is located less than two miles from CLE. More recreation options are available within a 90-minute drive to San Antonio, such as Six Flags Over Texas amusement park, the San Antonio Spurs NBA basketball team, and the world-famous Texas landmark, the Alamo.

The institution has the seventh-largest single-campus enrollment in the nation. The university's campus includes 3 large residence hall communities, apartments for families and graduate students, buffets and dining rooms. The university's seven museums and seventeen libraries hold over nine million volumes, making it the seventh-largest academic library in the country. The newest museum, the 14,400 m2 Blanton Museum of Art, is the largest university art museum in the United States and hosts approximately 17,000 works from Europe, the United States, and Latin America

One of the University's most visible features is the Beaux-Arts Main Building, including a 307-foot (94 m) tower designed by Paul Philippe Cret. Completed in 1937, the Main Building is in the middle of campus. The tower usually appears illuminated in white light in the evening but is lit orange for various special occasions, including athletic victories and academic accomplishments; it is conversely darkened for solemn occasions. At the top of the tower is a carillon of 56 bells, the largest in Texas.
