This programmes spans a broad range of subjects from advanced materials and mechanical engineering through to computer science, electronic and electrical engineering and aerospace control systems; these are pulled together by the study of topics such as flight mechanics, propulsion, avionics and aerostructures; students can also learn to fly through the University's links with the Yorkshire Universities Air Squadron, provided they fulfil the requirements of the RAF Selection and Medical Boards; this course equips students with a solid understanding of Aerospace Engineering; in years 2 and 3 students can choose to follow either the aerospace fluids, materials and structures or the aerospace systems elective; in year 3, students undertake an individual project on an industrially related topic with an aerospace theme;in the 4th year there is the opportunity to combine core aerospace engineering and management topics with a specialism of the students' choice to suit their own career path; students apply their skills in a group industrial design project and final year individual project work; after completion of the 4th year of academic study, there is the option of working in an aerospace engineering company; this industrial experience provides students with wide-ranging experiences and opportunities that will put their academic studies into context and improve their skills and employability; students benefit from experiencing the culture in industry, making contacts, and operating with the responsibility of a graduate engineer, while preparing for subsequent employment.
