This course differs from traditional aeronautical engineering courses in that it spans a broad range of subjects from advanced materials and mechanical engineering through to computer science, electronic and electrical engineering and aerospace control systems; these are pulled together by the study of topics such as flight mechanics, propulsion, avionics and aerostructures. Modules:Year 1: Microstructure and mechanical properties; analogue circuits for aerospace; control; electrical circuits for aerospace engineers; engineering mechanics; fundamental engineering mechanics; introduction to aerospace design; introduction to aerospace engineering; thermofluids; mathematics.Year 2: Modelling, simulation and control; aerostructures and performance; avionic systems; basic java programming and problem solving; fluids engineering; methmatics; object orientated design and programming with java; discrete systems; communication systems; design of structures, machines and systems; electronic devices in circuits; fracture mechanics and corrosion; materials design, selection and performance; thermodynamic cycles and heat transfer.Year 3: aero propulsion; aerodynamic design; aircraft dynamics and control; engineering managment; aerospace individual investigative project; advanced software engineering seminars; antennas, radar and navigation; composite micromechanics and strong reinforcing fibres; computer architecture; data structures and algorithms; embedded control systems; finite element techniques; integrity of materials and components; manufacturing systems; surface degradation and protection.
