This course provides students with a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of catchments and coasts, and the confidence and skills required to analyse and interpret a wide range of data from these environments; strong linkages are present between the core modules to ensure continuity and reinforcement of the dominant concepts and ideas; the emphasis of this programme is on data analysis, but data collection and applying the data analysis results to environmental management are also addressed; the general structure of the programme comprises a solid grounding in catchment/coastal dynamics, modules on research methods/skills and a field week in term 1, followed by specialist data analysis modules in term 2, to provide a grounding for the dissertation research in term 3; dissertation research is conducted in close association with an academic, industry or government partner to provide a valuable work-based learning experience.
