First year: modules designed to introduce the foundations of accounting and finance; to ensure a good understanding of the fundamental principles and issues that affect accounting; will also study other modules in mathematics, statistics, economics, introduction to English law, computing applications and a career skills course; remaining modules will be chosen from a range of options, for example in management; second year: compulsory accounting and finance modules, plus a business law module, which will build on first year studies and provide the prerequisites for the final year of study; also a specialist module designed to provide the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for the internship year; choice from further accounting, economics or management modules, which may depend on the requirements of professional accreditation; third year: those successfully opting for the internship year will spend an academic year working at a firm of accountants before returning to Manchester for the final year; those who do not choose an internship year will proceed straight to their final year of study; final year: compulsory case study module, which will give those who take the internship year an opportunity to consolidate and apply what they have learned to an individual project; those who have not taken up an internship year will be offered an alternative case study module; there is also a second module of business law, and a taxation module; remaining modules will then be chosen from a range of accounting, finance, economics or management courses, again depending on the requirements of professional accreditation.
