The triple-accredited 4-year MEng degree satisfies the academic requirements for registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng) and a European Engineer (Eur Ing); the couse is designed to offer students a greater depth and breadth of specialist knowledge in the core aerospace subjects with a range of advanced modules in subjects such as configurational aerodynamics, lightweight materials, flight handling qualities (where students design their own fixes to flying problems), advanced guidance systems and management; in years 1 to 3, students study design, aerodynamics, flight dynamics and control, aeroengines, aerostructures communications, avionics and aircraft materials; students also attend a 3-day flight test course in a jetstream aircraft and, with the Rotorcraft flight module, explore the flight characteristics of the UH- 60 Blackhawk and Lynx helicopters and the XV-15 tilt rotor in our advanced moving-base flight simulator; in years 3 and 4, students form into groups to design and test an aircraft concept as well as undertaking research, potentially developing innovative concepts in their own individual project; students have the opportunity to spend their 3rd year in the USA studying at the University of Illinois.
