The Scandinavian languages have a rich literature ranging from the Middle Ages to the modern period; for the linguist they offer a fascinating field for comparative study between themselves and with other Germanic languages; history encompasses a range of topics and places, and historians are skilled in managing both general and specific information; students have the chance to study ancient Greece and Rome, modern China, Africa, the Americas, India, Britain and Russia, as well as medieval, renaissance and modern Scotland and Italy; the study of different historical contexts enables students to make cultural comparisons, and helps you to reflect on long-term historical development; economic and social history looks at how societies and economies change, and examines the causes and consequences of such changes; it enables students to understand present-day institutions and issues through looking at their origins and development.
