Community educators are involved in community development, adult education or work with young people in the public or voluntary sectors; they assist people in becoming critical and active participants in all aspects of personal and community life; the student has the option to leave the full-time programme after 3 years with an ordinary degree or to complete a 4th year leading to an Honours degree; over 4 years, the programme typically follows the same curriculum except for 2 innovative work-based learning courses; the student may be required to have regular work commitment in community education (for example, adult education, youth work, community work or community arts) of not less than 10 hours per week, which may include voluntary activity.
