This is ideal for students who want to follow an early childhood studies course that focuses on the lives and backgrounds of children up to 8 years old; it incorporates all aspects of early childhood studies, which may include: child development; care and education birth to 3; legislation, policy and practice for working with young children; governmental and other agendas for the early years and children aged up to 8; historical and international perspectives; political, societal and cultural factors in understanding young children, their families and communities; children and the law; children and the media; the student studies and has experience of multiple settings that cater for young children and their families; in this way the course helps the student focus on and decide their career plans post-graduation through their work experience placements, an integral part of the course; strong links are made between what the student learns through the course and what the student observes and experiences in practice; this means that they gain 1st-hand experience of multi-professional theory and working as it occurs in practice; there may also be the opportunity for the student to participate in the study-abroad scheme where they can see at 1st hand the study, education and care of young children in a different country; this course is taught at the Carlisle, Fusehill Street campus.
