This is a joint Honours programme which allows the student to study 2 subjects in equal proportions; the discipline of education studies draws upon philosophy, sociology, history and psychology to critically examine educational decision making in an attempt to understand contemporary change and persistent trends; education studies is concerned with understanding how people develop and learn throughout their lives and is the study of educational processes and the cultural, political and historical contexts in which they are embedded; the sport and exercise sciences programme is designed around 2 central areas: 1st, to develop knowledge, skills and analytical techniques in the conventional sub-disciplines of sport and exercise sciences, namely: exercise physiology; sport and exercise psychology; sociology of sport; pedagogy/coaching science and biomechanics; and 2nd, to enable the student to begin to orientate their studies around vocational outlets in the form of: physical education; sports development; coaching; health promotion; leisure; recreation; as well as sport and exercise sciences.
