Course comprises 3 core elements: design projects, technology and humanities; the design project core is the centre of the degree course and aims to develop a strong visual and spatial imagination; for part of year 1, students of architecture, building and planning are taught together; in years 2 and 3 students join small studio units spanning both years, each with its own staff and distinctive approach to architecture; the technology core concerns structure, construction, materials and environmental design and engineering; the humanities core concerns the history, theory and professional practice of architecture; successful completion of the this course leads to exemption from part 1 of the Architects Registration Board (ARB) and Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) examinations.
