The course provides an insight into the nature of the accounting process and its varied applications in business life. It includes subjects which are fundamental to an understanding of the financial position of an enterprise and equally importantly examines other disciplines which recognise that business success cannot simply be measured in financial terms. The course recognises the challenges and limitations encountered by placing excessive reliance upon financial information as the major source of information for business and personal decisions. The subjectivity and flexibility which underlies much financial and management information is examined and their consequences explored.

This degree covers all the main areas of accounting and finance in terms of practical application and critical appraisal. It is designed for those wishing to pursue a career as a professional Chartered Accountant. It is also suitable for those wishing to pursue other careers in professional accounting qualifications or business management.

The award is accredited for ACCA (9 exemptions), CIMA (9 exemptions) and ICAEW (7 exemptions). The above aim of extending accreditation is in line with overall goal of accreditation for Lancashire Business School from bodies such as the Association of MBAs (AMBA), the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) and the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
