This is a combined Honours course which allows the student to study 2 subjects at degree level; the coaching studies programme offers the student a chance to study a range of units that underpin the dynamic areas encompassed by coaching and sport development; each unit marries the theoretical with a practical understanding of issues so that the student can relate their learning to experiences and situations commonplace in this exciting area of study; the 3rd year may require the student to negotiate industry related work at home or abroad, whilst students are encouraged from day 1 to volunteer or gain part-time jobs in coaching and/ or sports development, eg within schools, sports clubs, local authorities and summer camps; sociology is essential for those interested in people and society, especially those with career intentions in person-centred occupations; the course aims to analyse the nature of relationships between the individual and society by studying a number of aspects of our social world, for ex maple: family; schooling; the media; crime and deviancy; youth; gender; health and illness; social policy; special needs; belief systems; the study of these issues is informed by traditional and contemporary sociological theory and analysis; this programme is run at the Cheshire campus.
