Covering the years from birth to age 18, the course contains aspects of psychology, sociology, social policy, the law, health, literature and social history; students examine children's lives and experiences through a variety of themes including social needs, rights under the law, nutrition, diet and exercise; there is the opportunity to specialise in child development, social welfare, dealing with special needs, nutritional issues and representations of children and youth in literature; during 2 professional placements students work with organisations for children and young people.
