The course is designed to enable students to develop their own specialist knowledge and skills in costume, fashion or textiles pathways; students will gain in-depth knowledge and understanding of design, materials, structure and construction in their chosen field; emphasis is placed on the development of independence as designers through transferable skills, technical competence and analysis and evaluation of design research; the programme incorporates commercial awareness relevant to the design industry through competitions, live projects, client led briefs and work placements; a dissertation or suitable alternative form of presenting theoretical research based work forms an important element of this programme; students also develop critical and reflective skills throughout the programme and are encouraged to attend the regular visiting speaker events.
