This programme explores gender in relation to critical and cultural theories, both within sociology and across disciplinary boundaries; it offers rigorous research training, with the emphasis on understanding the practice of research in relation to gender, and encourages students to explore the challenges raised in recent debates on gender; issues discussed include: the body, masculinity; post colonialism; human rights; sexual violence; subjectivity and biomedicine; Module options include: politics and difference; the relationship between globalisation, risk and control; psychoanalysis; sociology of culture; and biomedicine and the biological citizen.
