The course starts by introducing the core skills needed by all professional writers: techniques to structure ideas, develop different kinds of narrative, edit and critique students' own work and that of others; students then focus on developing more specialist skills, choosing from options including feature writing, writing the novel, writing non-fiction, scriptwriting and writing creatively for business; for the final project students complete a longer piece of work, which might be a television script, part of a fiction or non-fiction book, or a substantial piece of writing for a business context; throughout the course students are helped and encouraged to develop an understanding of the writing industry, together a with high-calibre portfolio of their own work and the confidence and presentational skills to market it effectively.

Falmouth Campus is a ten-minute walk from Falmouth Town station, five minutes by train from Penryn and 20 minutes by train from Truro (every half hour Monday - Friday.) There are eight buses an hour to Penryn at peak times. Buses depart regularly from Falmouth town centre, the train takes five minutes from Falmouth and it’s 15 minutes by train from Truro to Penryn station, which is a 20-minute walk from the campus.
