The emphasis throughout the course is on the application of engineering and the physical sciences to forensic problems; it is designed to give a broad introduction to the subject, rapidly advancing into the understanding of the cutting-edge research and latest techniques; the course is highly practical and hands-on, aiming to produce forensic experts capable of giving an expert opinion in a courtroom situation and elsewhere; the main body of the course comes after a 2-week period of introductory studies and consists of 10 compulsory modules and one elective module selected from a choice of 4; most modules are of 5 days duration, interspersed with weeks devoted to private study and visits to forensic science establishments; after successful completion of the taught phase of the course, each Master's student undertake a research project.; PgDip students are required to complete the taught phase only.
