The course focuses on learning through experience and provides for a major collaborative project designed to address a real local cohesion issue; further work is undertaken in a negotiated area of personal interest and through reflection on professional development facilitated by the action learning process; the course is supported by the Institute of Community Cohesion (iCoCo); students gain a deeper understanding of the issues relevant to their community cohesion role to be able to make a significant strategic contribution to community cohesion projects; there are 2 2-day residentials at the beginning of the course, followed by monthly half-day action learning set meetings and 2 study days; the core philosophy of the work-based learning diploma is that good professional practice should be firmly based in research on the effectiveness of different community cohesion interventions.
