Technical expertise is only 1 aspect of the wellrounded sound practitioner; equally importantly, students also engage with the conceptual underpinnings of theatre sound design aesthetics; they assess the sonic implications of performance through careful analysis of text, light, movement, set, costume and objects, and then actually design sound that help impart the intended meaning of the performance to the audience; across all 3 years, students work closely with directors, designers, actors and production teams on a range of practical production projects designed to develop their overall understanding of the creative process and hone their design skills; students also gain knowledge of the context and history of live performance, and learn technical, communication and problem-solving skills.
