Anthropology offers a unique and powerful means for understanding cultural and social diversity in the modern world (concerned with such contemporary issues as multiculturalism; identity politics; racism and ethnic nationalism; changing forms of the family; religious conflict; gender; and the political role of culture); whilst also addressing the perennial questions about human nature: what do we have in common with each other cross culturally, and what makes us different which the broad based social sciences first year programme aims to do by giving anthropology students a grounding in the sister disciplines of psychology; sociology; media and communications (further strengthening career prospects).

Location

The University is just a 20-minute walk – or a short bus ride – from Uxbridge underground station, so it is a straightforward journey into central London. There is also a night bus that can bring you from central London to the edge of the campus. The town of Uxbridge itself, which still has buildings dating back to its time as a Georgian market town, is a thriving commercial and business centre. Its major shopping complexes, The Pavilions and the Chimes Centre, boast a wide range of shops, cafes and a nine-screen multiplex cinema.
