Greenwich is the academic home to a diverse and talented community of more than 21,000 students in the UK. This year, the University was identified as one of the “most international” universities in the world, with nearly 5,500 international students from 176 countries choosing to study with us, the diversity of the workforce and the student population brings also with it a diversity in skills and experience. It also has more than 15,500 students studying with 30 partner academic institutions in 29 countries. The university has won four Queen’s Anniversary Prizes for Higher and Further Education, including a 2015 prize for outstanding work in Africa.

The institution has a long track record of solving problems for governments, charities, industry and other partners, with special expertise in computational engineering and natural resources. It also works in fields such as business analysis, computer modelling, fire safety, pain management, pharmaceuticals and sustainable development.
Greenwich was honoured with the award of two prestigious prizes in 2015. The Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Further and Higher Education recognised outstanding work by the Natural Resources Institute on cassava, a tropical root crop in Africa: through their expertise, university scientists have helped millions of people by improving crop production and boosting the incomes of rural farming communities.
Greenwich regularly invests in staff to further raise academic and teaching standards. All four faculties in the university benefit from the investment, allowing it to broaden and strengthen its expertise in a wide range of subjects. Since 2011, the number of staff with an accredited teaching qualification has increased by 40%, and the number with a doctorate by 20%.
The university’s key strengths include digital and creative arts, law, engineering, science, mathematics, business (including finance, accounting and economics), architecture, computing, humanities, nursing, midwifery, public health, education and pharmacy.
Each year, staff and students receive top national and international honours and awards for their achievements.

The university’s campuses in south east London and Kent all offer modern, hi-tech facilities within magnificent and historic settings. The largest campus is centred on the Old Royal Naval College in Royal Greenwich, at the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage Site on the banks of the River Thames and next to Greenwich Royal Park. The Avery Hill Campus in Eltham enjoys a parkland setting, and the Medway Campus features redbrick Edwardian buildings in Chatham Maritime, Kent. All sites are served by excellent rail and bus links, and an inter-campus bus service.
